Each year, the descendants of Strawbridge and Martha Young gather together at the historic Young HomePlace. This year, the Annual Young Gathering will be Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Young HomePlace located at 134 Joe Young Rd., Burnsville, NC 28714.
The event is free and everyone is invited – bring a dish to share and a chair. The schedule for the day is as follows:
- 10:00 AM- 11:00 AM Registration
- 11:00 AM – 12:00 pm Coffee and Conversation – join us to learn about the plans for the Center for Pioneer Life
- 12:30 PM Lunch – Bring a dish to share. Drinks will be provided.
Throughout the day, the Josiah and Frances Ray Young Cabin will be open for tours. In addition, a Young family exhibit will be on display. There will be children’s activities throughout the day.
Mary Beth McQueen will be performing at the Young Gathering this year, playing her Highland Pipes, as well as thrilling us with her fiddling. Mary Beth began playing the Highland Pipes at 8 years of age, and has been attending the North American Academy of Piping and Drumming for many years. In 2014 Mary Beth placed 2nd in the US Scottish Fiddle Championship and in 2015 won Best March in the open level. She has also been performing and competing for many years at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games (Dancing, Highland Pipes and Fiddle).
